Jungle Trekking in Air Hitam Forest Reserve Near Puchong

I started jungle trekking in Air Hitam Forest Reserve in 19th Sept 2009. I found out this place from my kid's tutor, who is a jungle trekking lover.

The entrance is located at Jalan Wawasan 5/1, Taman Puchong Jaya. (Google Map location : 3 01 29.86'N, 101 37 46.78'E).

Everyday, we will gather at the entrance at 6.50am. Anyone who is interest in jungle trekking are welcome to join us.During weekend, there will be people enter the jungle from 6.50am till 9am.

There are a few routes in the jungle. The one that we usually took take about 60 min for a round trip.

Below are some of the photos in the jungle (click on the photo to enlarge) :

There are a few entrances to the forest. The entrance that I use is the between Taman Wawasan Puchong and Bandar Puteri, Puchong.

The entrance near Taman Wawasan Puchong. Plenty of parking lots here.

The beginning of the route is wide. It is slippery during raining day.

The entrance to the jungle.

Signboards that you will see before entering the forest. The forest is managed by University Putera Malaysia.

The route in the jungle.

The first stop.

There are swings there for kids to play. It takes about 10 minutes to reach to the first stop.

The second stop is at the top of the hill.

You will see flowers around. It takes about 25 minutes to reach to the second stop.

The route to third stop.

The third stop is the small water fall.
It takes about 1 hour to reach here.
The water is very deep. Not encourage swimming here.

The exit.
Round trip to and back from third stop takes about 2 hours.

  1. Hi Mr Anthony Tan,
Thank you for the information that you have posted, especially on those Google maps.
This forest reserve is pretty talked about nowadays, as there are plans to turn a big part of it into cemeteries as well as concrete jungle.
I used to think that the "entrance" is located somewhere near to Lestari Puchong (the portion which has been earmarked for cemeteries) but now I know better, all thanks to your blog. I am very interested in joining you active folks, but waking up before 6.50am is just not my cup of tea, not because I am sedentary, but due to the need to work. Going into the jungle all alone for the first time sound unpalatable. So how can I join you people, during weekends? Thank you. Cheong (pwcheongtwm@yahoo.com)

    1. If you go there during weekend morning any time between 7-11am, it is like pasar malam, full of people. You don't have to be worry about getting lost in the jungle.

  9. I am extremely glad i was able to locate this place in the heart of Puchong. After moving from Penang to KL for past 3 years i missed my jungle trekking days in Penang. Back in penang i frequently hike to Penang Hill (84) my favourite, Moon Gate, Bukit Jambul and Air Itam Dam. 1st trip was last week when all the way up to the 2nd top as per mentioned in this blog wanted to continue to the waterfall but friends were to tired. Hoping to go the waterfall in the coming weeks. I want to know if its common for people to go always the way to the Waterfall on weekends as my friends there are not keen to explore deep in to the jungle. contact me on my email betelgeuse01@gmail.com

  13. Did you get a permit to enter? Notice from your picture, it's prohibited to enter! Understand that MP Terresa Kok has written for waiver but should the waiver approved then the signboard should have been removed to avoid public confusion.

    1. You no need permit to enter. Go there and have fund.

ps: it is like going to pasar malam if you go there during Sunday 8-10am. Lots of people, 'traffic jam' and you won't get lost.

  15. Do we need permission to enter the forest reserve?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Officially you are require to have a permit to enter the jungle. But 99.999% of the people don't care about this.
If it is your first time there, just go there during weekend (Saturday or Sunday) around 7-9am. Lots of people there, you won't get lost and ask anyone there and you will have all your questions answered.

  17. 1-The road to the river and waterfall is closed.
2-It take about 1 hour 15 min to go one round in the jungle.

  18. Do you think it's safe to go only 2 person? This is the first time for both of us and we're going during weekdays. Please advice. Thank you. :)

  19. Is best if you could go there during weekend for your first try. It will have a lot of people during morning and evening time.
If you want to go during weekday, try evening 5-6pm. Don't go after 7pm, cause it take 1 hour for the round trip and when you come out, it will be dark.

  20. Is the road to the river and waterfall still closed ? And is there more people on saturday or sunday ?
